About Walker Church

Located just off the sprawling banks of Lake Oconee, Walker United Methodist Church is a family of God serving Jesus Christ at home and abroad. The Spirit of warmth and friendliness found at Walker creates a sense of home and belonging for all.

Walker ministers to the church family through worship, Sunday school, Wednesday evening
dinner, small groups, men’s and women’s groups as we seek to grow in our love for Christ and each other.

Walker ministers to those outside our walls through outreach to and support of several local
organizations some of which include the local food bank, local Christmas Stocking, Penfield
Recovery, Green County Senior Center. Our church also ministers through Kairos Prison Ministry at Washington State Prison.

Walker enjoys a special relationship with Mitzpah Methodist Church and school on the island of Utila in Honduras. Walker is a family of God always welcoming new brothers and sisters into the family learning together and celebrating with one another in happy times and holding one another up in the hard times. The Walker church family strives in Jesus’ name to lead others to a relationship with Jesus and make the world a better place through Christ’s love.

Meet Our Staff

PASTOR DAVID COLLINS

David Collins

Pastor

Hello, my name is David C. Collins, and I have the high honor of serving as pastor of this great church!

My wife Melanie and I have been married since Aug. 2 1986 (highschool sweet hearts). We have two adult sons; Wesley married to Taylor and our granddaughter Poppy, and our son Kyle. We have three 4-legged large mutts Isabelle, Duke, and D'Artanian (very friendly once they have greeted you).
Melanie and I grew up and lived most of our lives in Conyers Ga. where we raised our sons. I am the youngest of two sisters and a brother (a big family) and Melanie is an only child (a small family). Family time and making wonderful memories is very important to us and our favorite passtime!

I am a second career pastor. I was an electrician for 23 years before pursuing my call to ministry. I am a graduate of Shorter University with a Master's in Divinity from Emory University's Candler School of Theology. Melanie is a Retired Elementary School Teacher. I have served in the North Ga. Conf. since 2002 as a pastor. Walker UMC is our 6th congregation and we came here to serve in July 2023. We live here in the church parsonage.

We love and enjoy going camping, serving in missions, passionate about Emmaus, lots of family time, and fellowshipping with all our brothers and sisters in Christ here at Walker and this great community!

I have a sweet tooth and Reese's peanut butter cups are my favourite treat. I love anything strawberry or coconut (but Melanie does not, chocolate is her passion)! Shared meals around the table are simply the the best treasure ever especially when family and friends are there. My favorite scripture comes from Matthew 5:13-16, be the light my friends!!! If you want to know more about me just ask I would love to share. Know that my door is always open!
